The kite trying to destroy him in teh end, isn't that just a bit *dark?
Indeed, the Christian reference is probably not intended but that's some sharply observed symbolism:) And it's kinda dark..that's life as well kids!
The cross is an ancient symbol that pre-dates Christianity:
