There's a lot of debate as to how much Koko really understands and how much is just her trainers "putting words in her mouth," so to speak, by overly interpreting what she's doing. Clearly, Koko does have a simplistic grasp of how to communicate using gestures, but a lot of what she says is just plain gibberish. Still, I gotta upvote for Mr. Rogers. Such a great man and a beacon of hope for all kids. We need more people like him.
